This came up just a few months ago...

...but in short, yes, they had the complete version - they've even released the complete version (on the So Many Roads set) - but they edited five minutes out of it on the Winterland set just so it would fit on that disc.
And ever since then, unsuspecting listeners have sometimes been puzzled: "isn't this shorter than I remember?..."

This kind of thing is fortunately very rare on GD releases. Perhaps the most notorious example is Phil cutting out his bass solo on Dick's Picks One (12/19/73). And sometimes they will do a 'silent' edit of a verse in a song that has a reel-flip, to hide the cut (I think the 10/31/71 NFA was edited like this, for instance) - or they might splice in the same section from the nearest available performance (can't remember which DP they did this on).
They never ever announce these, though.

This "Eyes" cut is vexing ( I have it on the SMRs set complete ), I understand that compromises must sometimes be made, but I think this one was a case of bad judgement . I wish they would be more upfront about what they do, Just tell us "why", and we can agree or disagree, but most of the time it would explain the difficulties they face in trying to put these things together, and their decisions would be more comprehensible, and it might garner more appreciation for the hard work and painful choices that go into these issues .
I still like the set ( hell, I would have paid for and extra disc to get it right ), some great music here , give us more !

Ah--well, I was obviously napping due to era bias, but that is too bad for the fans of 74...what a pisser, and you'd think they'd know better.

Wouldn't any of you sorts say you'd be happier if they left off a USBlues or JBG or M&MU to get the time they needed?
